Barley Drink

What is barley? It’s a wheat with healthy high-fiber and protein, which has health benefits. Some have said that it’s a cleansing drink but I am unable to comment on this, so I just drink it.
If you fancy really sweet drinks, you can add 10 pieces of winter melon and additional 2 tablespoon sugar –> this is REALLY REALLY sweet for me.
For me I only added 10 pieces and no extra sugar - > Sweet for me.

Sweetness depends on your own level as some people want it really sweet, for me it’s just slight sweet is sufficient. If you serve it cold with ice, you have might have to add more sugar or melon, as it will be diluted by the ice. If served hot, you may just add sugar accordingly when it is boiling.

It’s a refreshing drink on a hot day if you add lots of ice to it. You could add a few drops of lemon juice into the barley to have this little sour taste if you feel barley alone is too blend.

Ingredient
200 grams winter melon/ 10 pieces
2 tablespoon Sugar
2 pandan leaf
½ pot water for small pots (5 Chinese rice bowls)
Prepare & Cook
Rinse barley wheat & winter melon
Wash pandan leaf and tie a knot
Boil for 20 minutes till the barley is swollen
Stir up, taste for sweetness
Add sugar if required or
Add water if you feel it’s too thick
Boil another 45 minutes with low fire
Ready to serve hot or cold

After its cooked, the barley wheat will be bloated and feels abit chewy & starchy if you eat them. The water will turn snowy while like the congee water or porridge water. Enjoy your drink on a hot sunny day!

Sweet Pea Sprout/ Tau Miu Anchovies

Tau Miu vegetable (Cantonese language), actually I’ve search many places to find the name of this vegetable. Unfortunately its not available in wiki but some did mentioned its called the sweet pea sprout.  It’s a tiny vegetable with sweetness from within. If you wonder, I could only describe, it looks like the alfafa’s big brother. Why big brother, the stem is thicker, the tiny leaves brunching out are bigger and more green. The roots have been cut away.
If the vege dries up while you are cooking, you may add ¼ cup of water to avoid it from burning. All I can say this is a refreshing dish with natural sweetness in it. Adding in the crispy fried anchovies. It is just so appetizing.
Ingredient
Wash up sweet pea sprouts
2 cloves of garlic,
3 tablespoon of baby anchovies
1 tablespoon soy sauce, ½ teaspoon sugar
1 tablespoon oyster sauce, ¼ cup water
Prepare & cook
Heat oil, add garlic and anchovies
Fry till anchovies turn dark yellow but not brown
Remove half to plate
Add the pea sprout, 1 tablespoon soy sauce,
½ teaspoon sugar, 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
¼ cup water (if required)
Ready to serve
