Ma Poh Tofu (Soft Tofu)
For those busy ladies, I doubt you would have time to grind chili
to make the sauce for Ma Po Tofu. Tofu is well known for its smooth soft texture
but some would say, tasteless flavor. How should we make tofu delicious? Add
some spices to it… Here is a dish, spicy Ma Po Tofu. The mushroom to make your
spicy sauce a little sweet with its mushroom fragrance, else it will taste just
like eating tofu dip with plain chili only.
Ingredient
1 prepack ma po tofu sauce,
1 pack soft tofu (any brand)
2 clove garlic, 3 birds eye chili aka chili padi
6 pieces dried mushroom (medium size),
mincemeat (chicken/pork)
1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon sesame oil,
½ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon sugar,
Prepare & Cook
Soak Mushroom till soft (1 hour)
6 pieces mushroom cut to 6 pieces each or mince
2 clove garlic, cut to cubes,
3 birds eye chili cut slices
Tofu cut to cubes
Heat oil, fry garlic, add in mincemeat, fry 5 seconds,
Add mushroom, stir fry & mix, add ¼ cup water (avoid mushroom
being burn)
Add soy sauce, 1 tablespoon soy sauce, 1 teaspoon sesame oil,
½ teaspoon salt, ½ teaspoon sugar, mix it.
Add pre- packed ma po tofu sauce
Add ½ cup water,
Add tofu, stir & mix, simmer for another 15mins till the sauce
slightly thickens
Garnish with birds eye chili
Ready to serve
If you feel it is too watery and like the sauce to be thicker, you may make some corn flour water and add in slowly to the pot.
